Musicology:
In 1894, during Elgar's time in Worcestershire, before he became famous and recognized, the Duke of York paid a Royal visit, and Elgar wrote "Sursum Corda" (i.e. "Lift your Hearts"), a typical occasional piece. The work is a sort of ceremonial anthem, written for strings, brass and organ, noble and majestic, including some intense moments and at other times more lyrical, but lacking in depth and emotional impact. -
