Both the Morceau de fantaisie in g minor and the Fughetta in F major were dated 1899, but they are in Rachmaninov's earlier style of the 1880's. They both show the influence of Tchaikovsky. The Morceau is a grateful salon piece that is charming if not very original. The Fughetta is only loosely constructed in that form and is less than effective. Neither piece is particularly representative of Rachmaninov at his best.
