These pieces are merely arrangements of well-known works for the piano for use as studies in technique. They are masterly done, and valuable technical studies, but hardly intended for nor effective in performance.
1. Study after Frédéric Chopin in F minor. This is an arrangement of the Chopin Étude Opus 25, no. 2 with the right hand in double thirds and sixths.
2. Rondo after C.M. von Weber in C major. The right hand and left hand have been reversed in this arrangement of the Finale from Weber's first Piano Sonata.
3.-4. Presto after J.S. Bach in g minor (2 versions). This is the Presto from the G minor Sonata for solo violin by Bach arranged in two different versions for piano.
5. Chaconne by J.S. Bach in D minor. The longest and most musically valuable of the set, Brahms here has arranged the famous Chaconne from the D minor Partita for solo violin by Bach for the left hand alone.
