Musicology:
After a very quiet beginning, Purcell composes imitative counterpoint in a slow to moderate tempo, but still in a contemplative vein. The second section is very short, and freer and more florid. One of the contrapuntal devices Purcell employs in this piece is the sequence, which gives it a certain amount of architectural stability. -
