Brahms probably wrote these down for his own use at the time, early in his life, when he was still toying with the possibility of a solo career as a pianist. Today, it would be absurd to play a cadenza other than Mozart's (few have survived) or the pianist's own. Nevertheless, these are fascinating examples of what Brahms-the-pianist would have played.
