Zambra granadina (danse orientale) in D-, B.42Key: D-
Year: c.1890
Genre: Other Keyboard
Pr. Instrument: Piano
Isaac Albéniz was a prolific piano composer; he wrote numerous short pieces that were not part of his major suites, such as Ibéria and Cantos de España.
A zambra is a dance, of Moorish origin, that became part of the tradition of flamenco. It is primarily danced by women, or by couples. The title of the work translates as "Zambra of Granada" and it is well described by its subtitle. It is an uncomplicated dance piece with a seductively exotic Eastern scale.
It is about three and a half minutes long, and it is a charming minor part of Albéniz's output of piano music. Albéniz wrote another Zambra around 1888; it is part of his Characteristic Pieces, Op 92.
