Musicology:
This praeludium in G major is one of the two manualiter (manuals only, no pedal part required) praeludia by Buxtehude. It is in five clearly defined sections, two fugal sections framed by three free toccata-like sections. The two fugues have thematically related subjects. The first is in common time and the second is a 6/8 variation on the first fugue subject. The passagework employed in the free sections works on the organ, but also lends itself to performance on the harpsichord. -
