In this cantata Buxtehude sets the second half of the first verse of Psalm 31. It is a brief cantata scored for soprano, alto, bass, and continuo. It is one of the few Buxtehude cantatas which does not employ string instruments. While the cantata could have been performed at Mass, its psalm text was also frequently suitable for performance at Vespers.
