This song for tenor and piano accompaniment has words by William Shakespeare for its text. A sweet lyrical melody in triplet meter declares "What is love ! 'tis not hereafter; Present mirth hath present laughter; What's to come is still unsure; In delay there lies no plenty; Then come kiss me, sweet-and-twenty ? Youth's a stuff will not endure". Like most of Warlock's songs this melody lies comfortably within the mid-tessitura of the voice, and gently wanders momentarily from its central tonality with brief chromatic passing chords that give a fluidity to the harmonies, a subtle masterly touch.
