Musicology:
Buxtehude wrote two manualiter (manuals only, no pedal part required) toccatas. Both are in G major. This one is the shorter of the two. It consists of a free section and a fugue that soon breaks down back into free rhapsodic material. Like the two toccatas with pedal, this toccata leans more heavily toward free rhapsodic material and contains less imitative material than in the praeludia. -
