The first piece in Honegger's incidental music for Shakespeare's play,

it was written in 1923 and premiered the same year. The brief piece

is a fierce evocation of a storm at sea, complete with wind shrieks and

thunderbolts. Written for full orchestra, the music is violently dramatic.

It begins with the storm going full blown and ends not less violently.
