Légende, for trumpet and pianoYear: 1906
Genre: Other Chamber
Pr. Instruments: Trumpet & Piano
Another of the short but technically demanding pieces written as test exercises for the annual instrumental competition at the Conservatoire in Paris, this is the most musically complex of all such pieces by Enescu. Dedicated to Merri Franquin, its unlikely combination of instruments caused Enescu to reflect greatly on the evocative, communicative power of the muted trumpet, which he later used to great effect in other pieces, including Au Soir for four trumpets (1906).
