Musicology (work in progress):
The father of the famous Mozart had an international reputation as the author of the first important pedagogical book on violin technique, and at least a local reputation as a respectable composer, particularly of light-hearted and novelty pieces. This two-movement trombone concerto (Adagio and Allegro moderato) is a well-known part of the repertoire for that instrument. Composed in 1762 when Wolfgang was six, it shows a great deal of imagination and skill in the way that Leopold devised themes that have considerable melodic interest despite the severe limitations on the number of notes that are available on the instrument. It is a bright, cheerful, and tuneful work, very enjoyable listening. -
