La romanziera e l'uomo nero is a short, one-act farsa, comprising seven numbers. The libretto has been lost, but the plot revolved around the popular attractions romantic thinking had for the young. The leading lady has succumbed to the seduction of the romantic temperament, and Donizetti parodied those seductions in arias which satirized music from his own opera Il Paria.. Domenico Gilardoni wrote the libretto. The opera premiered at the Teatro del Fondo in Naples, on June 18, 1831 and was a popular success. -
