Musicology:
Robert Schumann's Six Etudes on Caprices of Paganini, Op. 3 (1833) are transcriptions of Paganini's originals for the solo violin. Unlike the Op. 10 Concert Etudes, these works are intended primarily for pedagogical use rather than for public performance. Schumann produced the études at a time when piano arrangements of the Italian virtuoso's violin works were very much in vogue; Liszt, who was similarly attracted to their colorful virtuosity, himself adapted a number of Paganini's works for keyboard performance. -
