The text of this song is a French translation of the Memorare, also know as the Prayer of St. Bernard. The vocal setting is very naturalistic, with several repetitions of key words and phrases in the text, suggesting a deeply personal prayer rather than a more standard church setting. In contrast, the accompaniment is serenely repetitive, almost suggesting the tranquility of The total effect, particularly the soprano line, is highly reminiscent of the heroine's prayer in Manon, with its limpid lyricism and a certain touching insistency.
