Musicology:
One of his many miniatures from the 1970s that involve the voice, Feldman's Voice, Violin and Piano is a work of approximately five minutes' duration in which the singer vocalizes wordlessly over quiet, isolated sounds from the violin and dissonant chords from the piano. The textures are very spare, and the timbres evolve slowly and tentatively as notes move from performer to performer. In its spareness and emphasis on isolated notes and chords, as well as the prominent role given to silence, the work is similar to many of Feldman's compositions of the 1950s. The melodic lines of the three performers seem to converge towards the end of the piece. -
