  • Abodah: a Yom Kippur melody, for violin and piano
    Year: 1929
    Pr. Instrument: Violin

This short piece for violin and piano is a 1929 arrangement by Bloch of a Yom

Kippur melody for the 12-year old Yehudi Menuhin. The title means "The

Worship of God". The style of the piece is consistently similar to Bloch's at his

most rhapsodic. The piano opens with an introductory theme. The violin enters

in meditative mood, then becomes more exalted, then soars lyrically, while the

piano plays a support role. At the end, the piano brings back the introductory

theme. The violin closes in a pensive mood.
