This march celebrates Sousa's membrship in the Shriners' Temple. Its opening section features some exotic-sounding chromaticisms and a melody that proceeds predominantly in the minor mode. By contrast the second strain proceeds with a straightforward diatonic strut. The trio glides more lyrically with lines that are often chromatically driven (though not in the style of the first part), and the break strain is overtly fanfarish.
