John Philip Sousa composed considerable amounts of music other than marches. All of his music is excellently crafted and tuneful. Sousa was successful as a composer of operetta, writing 11 of them, and also wrote many songs. This is not an authentic Sousa operetta. ESS.A.Y. Records maven Richard Kapp devised the story and assembled the music from many Sousa stage sources and a few marches. Its subject is the presidency of Theodore Roosevelt and his spirited daughter, Alice, and her romance with Nick Longworth, one of the most famous Speakers of the House of Representatives. The story and text are exceedingly naive, while the music itself is generally quite charming.
