This is the original version of a Handel sonata found in a collection of pirate transcriptions for flute and oboe, published without authorization by John Walsh. In its violin form, it takes the key of G minor; the work follows the standard sonata layout of the time, four movements alternating slow and fast pieces.

The opening Larghetto, in its minor key, features a sweet, sighing melody for the violin over a rather trudging accompaniment in the continuo (generally harpsichord and gamba or cello). The next movement, the first of two Allegros, takes off from a more angular theme and almost immediately slips into rapid passagework, a pattern that is repeated throughout the movement, sometimes with fairly smooth material alternating with the passagework one bar to another; the briefest of cadenzas flashes near the end. The exceptionally brief Adagio has little chance to do anything other than establish a more serene mood while serving as a transition to the concluding Allegro. This latter piece has elements of the gigue, with the violin melody twisting up and down the staff to a strongly marked rhythm in the bass line.
