The "Sonata รก 6, die Pauern Kirchfahrt genandt (Sonata for 6 players, known as the Peasant's Church Procession)" is yet another of the composer's brief pieces for strings with a wonderful programmatic form and musical invention. The opening Adagio, followed by a Presto depict the older people and then the joyous children gathering and then participating in the holiday celebrations. Then far in the distance, in simple call-and-unison response, we hear a church hymn very gradually increasing in volume as the procession gets nearer and nearer. It passes us by, and just as gradually we hear the tune fade into the distance. Without pause, we are taken inside the church the people have entered, where the unison tune is blended with the harmonies of the organ, depicted by bow vibrato. This is the end of the peasants' holiday. A brief dance movement recalls the previous joy and the piece concludes. -
