Musicology:
This march's introduction sets a pompous and ceremonial atmosphere in which its first part struts motivically forward by way of some unusual metrical accents. The trio, by contrast, glides along its way (sometimes ina contented lyricism and sometimes more outspokenly), and the break strain extends its feel with some motifs treated imitatively in a louder and brasher tone. The trio parades in a grand manner on its last go-around, and a swaggering reprise of the first strain brings the work to its close. -
