Musicology:
Famous primarily for two works for guitar and orchestra (Fantasia para un gentilhombre and Concierto Andaluz), Rodrigo has gone on to write three further works for orchestra with guitar or guitars; they possess equal beauty, liveliness, and charm. The 1967 Concierto Andaluz was written for four guitars and orchestra for the guitar-playing Romero family. This concerto is in three movements; as is often the case with Rodrigo the emphasis is on the middle (slow) movement, which is considerably longer than the opener and finale and, as usual, possesses exceptionally lovely melodies. The final movements will delight fans of flamenco, because they use two dance forms used in that are, a sevillanas and a zapateado. -
