Composed for the Twenty-third Sunday after Trinity, which fell on November 23, 1726, Bach's Cantata No. 52 "Falsche Welt, dir trau ich nicht" (False World, I trust you not) (BWV 52) sets a text by an unknown poet with a closing chorale by Adam Reusner from 1533. The cantata is scored for soprano soloists, chorus, a pair of corno da caccia, three oboes, strings, and basso continuo. "Falsche Welt, dir trau ich nicht" is in F major with its first movement in the tonic, its second starting in the relative minor of D minor and ending in the minor mediant of A minor, its third in D minor, and its fourth and fifth movements in the major subdominant of B flat major. The first movement is a large-scale instrumental sinfonia for the full orchestra with prominent horns and oboes. The second movement is a secco recitative for soprano and continuo and the third is a vehement da capo aria for soprano, first and second violins, and continuo. The fourth movement is an impassioned secco recitative for soprano and continuo and the fifth is a dancing triple-time da capo aria for soprano, all three oboes, and continuo. "Falsche Welt, dir trau ich nicht" concludes with a massive harmonization of Reusner's chorale for chorus and full orchestra colla parte.
