Musicology (work in progress):
The seven-minute work falls into three main sections. All parts are based on four groups of pitch-sets (four, five, six, and seven notes long, respectively). The 7/8 opening section features a main harmonic idea (aggressively presented) followed by rising and falling rhythmic patterns. The contrasting central section stressed fast repeated notes and ideas associated with a triple meter. The ending section returns to the main ideas of the opening, presented in an even more forceful and enlivening way. This is one of the main American contributions to the growing international repertory of marimba compositions. -
