Benché la bionda treza, S.88 (ballata a2)Genre: Other Secular Polyphony
Pr. Instrument: Voice
Benche la bionda treça is a polyphonic work by the fourteenth-century Italian composer Francesco Landini (c. 1325-1397). It is an example of the Italian vocal form known as the ballata, and is written in two parts, a tenor and cantus. It is set in the Italian manner, with the same text in both parts, rather than the French, where only the cantus has a text. The text in this work is, however, incomplete, containing only the ripresa and two piedi.
The Italian text setting coupled with the older two-voice counterpoint lead scholars to date this as an earlier work of Landini. In the absence of documentary evidence, or references to historical facts, more precise dating is extremely difficult.
