This praeludium in A minor is a classic five-section Buxtehude praeludium with two fugues set in between three free toccata-like sections. The second and third free sections each grow organically out of the preceding fugue. The middle free section is the least substantial of the three and is really only a few measures long. The two fugue subjects are thematically related. The second subject is a 3/2 time variation on the first subject in common time.
