This prelude sets an Epiphany chorale. The text reads as follows, "Lord Jesus Christ the only son of God the Father in all eternity, sprouted from his heart as it is written, He is the morning star, his sparkle reaches out far beyond the other stars." Two preludes on this chorale by Buxtehude remain extant, and this one is the simpler of the two, but it is very elegant.
