This march begins with a fanfarish introduction after which the elegant and somewhat haughty first strain struts confidently along. The second strain features some chromatic scalar segments in its melodies, and the trio extends the strutting feeling of the first part with a lyrical melody offset by a vigorous and laughingly grace-noted counterline. The break strain kicks up with a straightforward rousing feel and climaxes with a powerfully rising chromatic segment, and the trio passes proudly in review as it returns to bring the work to a close.
