#1, Tempo di valse (Allegro) in A major, 1890. The theme of this Waltz is by Natalyo Skalon and it is in the brilliant salon style of the early to mid-Nineteenth Century. Chopin is the obvious model. It is quite effective and has a big and brilliant ending. #2, Romance (Andante sostenuto) in A major, 1891. This is a lovely work that sets a lyrical melody above an undulating accompaniment. Rachmaninov planned to have added a third piece to this set, Polonez, but it was never composed.
