Pardon My English (musical)Year: 1933
Genre: Other Solo Vocal
Pr. Instrument: Voice
The world premiere and out-of-town tryout took place December 2nd, 1932, in Philadelphia, with the New York premiere on January 20, 1933. The show closed in New York after only forty-six performances.
As noted above, Pardon My English was premiered in two versions; they are quite different from one another. The version outlined here is of the New York production which was a disaster when it opened there. However, in 1987, New York Times critic Stephen Holden refers positively to the musical score as being "typical early-30s Gershwin-propulsively jazzy, with many deft satirical flourishes."
