This song for tenor and piano accompaniment has words by John Fletcher for its text. This gentle piece weaves modal harmonies with chromatics in its accompaniment, but leaves the vocal melody for the most part in simple unadorned melody; the effect thus created lends subtle shadows of feeling to the articulated imagery, and a dreamy yet lyrical quality to the whole. - "Come, Sleep, and with thy sweet deceiving Lock me in delight awhile ... Tho ' but a shadow, but a sliding, Let me know some little joy. " This piece is an excellent example of Warlock's sensitive mastery of song composition.
