Andrew Bashkow

Andrew Bashkow was born in 1979 in Moscow, and began studying singing as a boy, at the A.Sveshnikov Moscow Choral School. In 1997 he entered the Academy of Choral Arts, where he studied voice with V.Aleksandrova and conducting with Viktor Popov (who likewise is featured here at the Classical Archives) and graduated in 2001. In 2004, he completed his post-graduate work at the Academy, studying voice with S.Nesterenko.

Among key performances for the young tenor include a solo aria performance from Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov for the 200th Anniversary of the birth of Alexandre Pushkin at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory (1999); and a solo performance at the concert honoring Russian tenor Sergei Lemeshev at Tchaikovsky Concert Hall. In 2004, the Russian recording company Rarities released his first CD: My Prayer.

Since 2003, Andrew has been working in a duet with celebrated Russian harpist N.Shameeva. The two perform a wide repertoire of chamber works from the 18th to 20th centuries, with an emphasis on Russian composers - as heard here in their interpretations of works by Tchaikovsky and Kikta (a featured composer here at the Classical Archives.)

Reviews

"Blessed with a beautiful voice, A.Bashow successfully performed a cycle of Tchaikovsky's Children's Songs, and effectively sang a few of [Tchaikovsky's] popular romances."
