Oleg Boshniakovich

Born in the ancient Russian village of Murom in 1920, pianist Oleg Boshniakovich began his musical training with his aunt, Anna Klekova, a celebrated teacher in Murom. In 1934, Boshniakovich moved to Moscow and entered the Central Music School of the Moscow Conservatory, and then into the Conservatory itself - studying with Professor Konstantin Igumnov. Following a brief interruption brought upon by the Second World War, Boshniakoich resumed his studies with the legendary pianist Heinrich Neuhause.

Boshniakovich has enjoyed a highly esteemed career, particularly in Russia. He is a People's Artist of Russia, and a highly respected professor at the National Gnessins Academy of Music - with a number of well-known students, such as B.Sapozhikov and A.Chernyshov. He has performed in all of the greatest halls in Russia, and has toured extensively in the US, England, and Japan. He has recorded a great amount of music, much of which we are delighted to present here at the Classical Archives. Beyond his work as a soloist, Boshniakovich has performed as an accompanist to top Russian singers such as Nadezhda Obukhova, Zara Dolukhanova, and Dmitry Khvorostovsky.

As is seen in these recordings, Boshniakovich has a broad repertory, though he places a high emphasis on the great piano works of the Romantic era - and indeed is widely celebrated as an interpreter of the "miniatures" of Chopin, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, and others.

Reviews

"One may always hear [in Boshniakovich's playing] a human voice, and not just a cantilena, as is commonly said about instruments, but the live human voice -bel canto."

Kultura (Russia)

"His performance is poetical, emotional, deeply musical, artist. His technique is irreproachable."
