Nicolas Dautricourt

The two young French musicians, violinist Nicolas Dautricourt and pianist Laurent Wagschal have recently completed two recordings together, featured here at the Classical Archives. The two have distinguished themselves both as individual soloists and as chamber musicians, and these recordings attest to their great promise as musical partners.

Nicolas Dautricourt was born in 1977, and entered the Paris Conservatory in 1993. While a student, Dautricourt won several awards, including first prize with distinction in the violin class of Professor J-J.Kantorow, as well as first prize in the chamber music class of Jean Mouillères, for his work with the Kinksy String Quartet. He has since won awards at several national and international competitions, including the Premier Grand Prix at the Henri Sauguet International Competition, and top awards at the Gian Battista Viotti International Competition (Vercelli, Italy) and the Belgrade International Competition, among others. Most recently, Dautricourt was awarded a three-year grant from the Natexis Foundation. He has performed throughout Europe and beyond, and is a regular participant in music festivals, particularly in France. After winning a competition organized by the L'Adami label, Dautricourt is now enjoying the personal loan of a magnificent Venetian violin, dating from 1756, and attributed Anselmo Bellosio.

Laurent Wagschal studied music at Annecy, before entering the Paris Conservatory. While a student, Wagschal won first prize in the piano class of Yvonne Loriod, and first prize in the chamber music class of Jean Mouillères. He has since won several awards at international piano competitions, including first prize and special prize for Romantic music at Trapani, Italy (1996), and second prize in Florence (1997). He too has recently won a grant from the Natexis Foundation. Wagschal performs regularly at festivals and concert halls in France, and elsewhere in Europe. His particular passion is chamber music, as these fine recordings demonstrate.
