Arman Gushchyan (1981-); ARM

Arman Gushchyan

Arman Gushchyan was born in 1981 in Yerevan, Armenia and in 2000 began his serious music training at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, studying composition with Professor Roman Ledenyov and orchestration with Professor Valery Kikta. Upon graduating with Honors in 2005, he entered the Conservatory's post-graduate school, working with Professor Larisa Kirillina, and is currently completing his thesis, "The Orchestral Thought of Luciano Berio." Beyond his conservatory training, Arman has attended Master Classes with Yuri Butzko, Guy Rebel, and Radion Schedrin.

Among the honors earned by Arman thus far include a Diploma at the All-Russian Organ Composition Competition (Moscow, 2002 - for his Fantasia for Organ), and an Honorable Mention at the Skryabin Competition (Moscow, 2002 - for his String Quartet). His music has been performed in Armenia, Russia, Germany, Switzerland, and the US - including at such festivals as the Moscow Forum (2003), the ICSM World Music Days (Switzerland, 2004), and the Moscow Autumn Festival (2004-05). His works have been performed by the Pre-Art Ensemble (Switzerland), the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, the Ensemble Studio for New Music, and the Russian Academic Symphony Orchestra - under conductor Aleksandr Slutsky, among others.

Beyond his compositional activity, Arman is a co-founder of the Young Composers' Club at the Moscow Conservatory (2001), and has served as its co-director. He currently lives in Moscow.
