Edward Gold (born July 25, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York) is an American pianist and composer. He earned a B.A. in music from the City College of New York and a Master of Music degree from Yale University, where his composition teachers included Mel Powell and H. Leroy Baumgartner. His piano studies included work with Elise Braun-Barnett at the Henry Street Settlement Music School, Ellsworth Grumman at Yale, and Nadia Reisenberg at the Mannes College of Music. Gold has appeared as a recitalist in the United States and abroad, including a 1963 tour of Mexico under the auspices of the U.S. Information Service and a 1994 recital devoted to Louis Moreau Gottschalk aboard the Queen Elizabeth 2.

Gold’s activities have encompassed performance, recording, arranging, and composition. His recordings for Musical Heritage Society included Gottschalk Piano Music, Piano Music of J. L. Dussek, Romantic Cello Encores with cellist Albert Catell, and participation in Music by Israeli Composers, to which he contributed an arrangement of Y’rushalayim. In later years he increasingly used computer technology in his compositional work and also created sequenced realizations of music by composers including Elgar, Schumann, Liszt, and Brahms. His career thus bridges traditional concert pianism and the developing use of digital tools in composition and musical realization.

Edward Gold was born in Brooklyn, New York, on July 25, 1936. He has a B.A. in music from New York City College and a Master of Music from Yale University. Among his piano teachers were Elise Braun-Barnett at the Henry Street Settlement Music School, Ellsworth Grumman at Yale, and Nadia Reisenberg at the Mannes College of Music. His composition studies at Yale were with Mel Powell and H.Leroy Baumgartner.

In 1963 he played a piano recital tour of Mexico under the U.S. Information Service and in 1994, played a recital of music by Louis Moreau Gottschalk on the Queen Elizabeth 2.

Among Mr. Gold's L.P. recordings for Musical Heritage Society are: "Gottschalk Piano Music" released in 1973 (MHS 1629); Piano Music of J.L. Dussek (1974-MHS1966); "Romantic Cello Encores" with Albert Catell" (1971-MHS 1219); and "Music by Israeli Composers" (1973-MHS 1653/1654) with various artists and to which he also contributed an arrangement of the song "Y'rushalayim".

In recent years, Mr. Gold has composed entirely on the computer and has sequenced his own music as well as the music of others, including Elgar, Schumann, Liszt, and Brahms.
