Alessandro Marcello

Marcello, Alessandro (b Venice, 1669; d Venice, 1747). It. violinist, composer, and mathematician, brother of Benedetto Marcello. Comp. cantatas, concs. for fls. and vns., and for ob. and fl. His ob. conc. in D minor was transcr. by J. S. Bach (BWV974) (erroneously attrib. to Vivaldi and later to B. Marcello).
